GILBERT, Ariz. — The Campo Verde Coyotes continued their strong run through the 2026 football season Thursday night, defeating the Mountain Pointe Pride 45-12 in a dominant 5A San Tan region matchup at Campo Verde High School.

The victory improved Campo Verde's record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in region play, while Mountain Pointe dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the region.

Coming off a commanding 42-6 victory over Gilbert the previous week, the Coyotes entered Thursday's contest looking to build on their momentum and remain unbeaten in region play.

Campo Verde did exactly that, delivering another impressive offensive performance while holding Mountain Pointe to just 12 points.

According to MaxPreps, the Coyotes finished the game with 402 yards of total offense, including 270 passing yards and 132 rushing yards. The balanced production helped Campo Verde secure its second consecutive victory and its fifth win in its last six games.

The Coyotes' ability to consistently produce points has been one of the biggest storylines surrounding the program this season.

After opening the year with a 49-21 loss to Williams Field, Campo Verde responded with three consecutive victories, defeating Ironwood Ridge 27-0, Sunnyside 36-6, and Goldwater 55-7.

Although a 33-10 loss to Notre Dame Prep on September 24 temporarily slowed the Coyotes' momentum, the team has responded with back-to-back dominant performances to open region competition.

Thursday's 45-point outing was the fifth time this season Campo Verde has defeated an opponent by at least 27 points this season, highlighting the offensive firepower the Coyotes have developed throughout the year.

Much of Campo Verde's offensive success this season has come through its passing attack, led by senior quarterback Jonah Lubno.

Lubno has established himself as a key part of the Coyotes' offense, working alongside several offensive playmakers who have helped Campo Verde become one of the more productive teams in the 5A San Tan region.

Senior wide receiver Easton Bakutis has been one of the team's leading receiving threats this season, while senior running back Brody Stickle has provided production on the ground.

That offensive combination has given the Coyotes multiple ways to move the football, making them a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.

Campo Verde's defensive performance has also played an important role in the team's recent success.

After holding Gilbert to just six points the previous week, the Coyotes followed with another strong outing against Mountain Pointe, allowing only 12 points.

The defensive effort marked the fifth time this season Campo Verde has held an opponent to 12 points or fewer, continuing a trend that has helped the Coyotes establish themselves as a contender in their region.

For Mountain Pointe, Thursday's defeat continued a difficult stretch following what had initially been a promising start to the season.

The Pride opened their 2026 campaign with a dominant 47-0 victory over Maricopa before suffering consecutive losses to Desert Vista, Mountain Ridge, and Desert Mountain.

Mountain Pointe appeared to regain momentum on September 25 with a 34-27 victory over Desert Edge, but has since struggled to carry that success into region competition.

The Pride entered Thursday's matchup following a 34-12 defeat against Arizona College Prep and were looking to avoid dropping their second consecutive region game.

Instead, Campo Verde's offense proved difficult to contain, handing Mountain Pointe its fifth loss of the season.

The Pride have now been held to just 12 points in consecutive games, a concerning trend for a team looking to turn its season around as the regular season approaches its final stretch.

Mountain Pointe has shown flashes of offensive potential throughout the year, particularly behind junior running back Jamier McKinney and the team's passing attack.

However, finding consistency has remained a challenge for the Pride, who have now lost five of their last six contests after their season-opening victory.

For Campo Verde, Thursday's result carried significance beyond another win in the standings.

With just three regular-season games remaining, the Coyotes are positioning themselves for a potential postseason appearance and an opportunity to compete near the top of the 5A San Tan region.

They've won their two region games by a combined 69 points, with the offense scoring at least 42 points in both contests.

The Coyotes have also found success playing in front of their home crowd, winning three consecutive home games after falling to Williams Field in their season opener.

As the regular season continues, Campo Verde will look to maintain that momentum against a challenging remaining schedule.

The Coyotes will travel to face Skyline on Friday, October 16, before taking on ALA-Gilbert North on October 23. Campo Verde will then close out its regular season at home on October 30 against Arizona College Prep on October 30.

Mountain Pointe, meanwhile, will return home next Friday to face Gilbert as the Pride search for their first region victory of the season.

Following that matchup, Mountain Pointe will host Skyline on October 23 before closing its regular season on the road against ALA-Gilbert North.

With the postseason approaching, both programs will face important challenges over the next several weeks.

For Mountain Pointe, the focus will be on finding consistency and finishing the season on a stronger note.

For Campo Verde, the goal is to continue building on its recent success and establish itself as a serious contender in the 5A playoff picture.

Thursday night's 45-12 victory was another step in that direction, as the Coyotes continued to demonstrate their ability to produce offensively and limit opposing teams on the scoreboard.

With five victories through seven games and an undefeated start to region play, Campo Verde has put itself in a strong position heading into the final stretch of the 2026 regular season.
