Corona Del Sol opened its 2026 season in dominant fashion Friday night, shutting out Valley Vista 58-0 in a game the Aztecs controlled from the opening whistle.

The defense set the tone early, forcing three turnovers in the first quarter and continuing to make plays throughout the game. Valley Vista struggled to get anything going offensively as Corona kept the pressure on and never let the game get close.

The defensive line was a big part of that performance, especially with new defensive line coach Curtis making his debut with the program. The Aztecs’ defensive front consistently created pressure and helped set the tone for a defense that kept Valley Vista off the scoreboard all night.

Quarterback Luke Farrell led the offense during the first half, accounting for five touchdowns. Farrell ran for two touchdowns and threw three more as the Aztecs put up 52 points before halftime. With Corona Del Sol in complete control, Farrell was taken out for the second half.

Special teams also played a major role early. Trevan Shuman recorded more than 100 return yards on four punt returns in the first half, giving the Aztecs strong field position and providing another way for Corona to keep the pressure on Valley Vista.

The running clock was already in effect by the end of the first quarter, and Corona’s backups took over after halftime. The Aztecs had a quiet third quarter, but backup quarterback Evan Dunn connected with Jahmanii Wade for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to add the final points of the night.

Corona Del Sol finished the game with a 58-0 shutout, dominating on offense, defense and special teams.

Now 1-0, the Aztecs will hit the road next week and head to Las Vegas for a matchup against Mojave. After a dominant start to the season, Corona Del Sol will look to carry that momentum across state lines.
