Corona del Sol and Williams Field battled Friday night in a game that stayed competitive throughout, but the Williams Field Black Hawks ultimately came away with a 33-23 victory over the Aztecs.

After opening the season with dominant wins over Valley Vista and Mojave, Corona del Sol faced a much tougher test against a Williams Field team that entered the matchup undefeated. Williams Field improved to 3-0 with the win, while Corona del Sol moved to 2-1 on the season.

The game started with both teams trading momentum. Corona del Sol was able to keep Williams Field’s offense under control early, with the Aztecs taking a 10-6 lead during a defensive battle in the second quarter.

Williams Field eventually found its rhythm offensively and began making explosive plays that changed the game. One of the biggest contributors was senior receiver John Booker, who became a key target for the Black Hawks throughout the night. Booker came up with several explosive plays, including a touchdown that helped Williams Field take control of the game.

Corona del Sol continued to fight throughout the second half and refused to let the game get away. The Aztecs put together multiple scoring drives and continued to battle on both sides of the ball, but Williams Field was able to answer when it needed to.

The Black Hawks’ ability to create explosive plays and capitalize on opportunities proved to be the difference. Williams Field eventually pulled away to secure the 33-23 victory.

For Corona del Sol, the loss comes after an impressive start to the season. The Aztecs opened the year with a 58-0 shutout over Valley Vista before following it up with a 50-0 win over Mojave. Friday night’s matchup provided a much different challenge and gave Corona an early opportunity to see where it stands against another strong Arizona program.

Despite the loss, Corona showed it can compete in a game against a talented Williams Field squad. The Aztecs will now look to regroup and prepare for their next matchup as they continue through the 2026 season.

Williams Field, meanwhile, remains undefeated at 3-0 and will look to carry its momentum into its next game against Red Mountain.

The 33-23 final score does not tell the entire story of the night. Corona had its moments, especially early, but Williams Field’s ability to make big plays when the game tightened up ultimately gave the Black Hawks the edge.
